| ohearn@platinum1.com | I understand that my great
grandfather Thomas O'Hearn emigrated to the U.S. and later moved up to Canada from
County Cork sometime in the mid-1800's, his first born son, (my grandfather) was born in a
small town near Toronto also named Thomas and the second son was named Joseph. My grandfather Thomas O'Hearn had four sons Thomas, Douglas, Victor and Frank (my father) who lived or raised their families in and around the Toronto area. My uncle Tom had no children, my uncle Doug had one son Joseph, my uncle Vic had a son Vic Jr. and a daughter Karen and my own father had five kids, in order of their ages, Thomas, Mike, Lance (me) Linda and Kimberly. My oldest brother Thomas has had two boys and a girl Sean, Patrick and Colleen (can't get more Irish than that.) My next oldest brother Mike had two girls, Kelly and Erin (again with the Irish overtones) I've had two daughters and a son, Rachel, Melissa, and James. I now intend to try to learn more about my great grandfather. Hope I haven't bored you with my short family history. Regards, Lance O'Hearn. (A name I've always worn with pride.) Posted 7/3/98. |

Joseph O'Hearn born Somerville, Ma. 12/03/1947 Grandfather - Thomas Edward O'Hearn born Cambridge, Ma. I can expand this list through my parents' brothers and sisters, and possibly through them to the generation that would include my great grandparents. While traveling in Ireland, I learned of Hearn's Hotel in Waterford, County. Not sure if there is any connection, but I did manage to gather some information there. I do have an image of the family crest, but the source is slightly unreliable. My understanding is the the crest reveals that the O'Hearn family were "the keepers of the stables/horses". A bit ironic since my great grandfather was accidentally killed when kicked in the head by a horse. This occurred while he was working in the car barns of the old Boston MTA (now known as the MBTA). Hopefully I will be able to pin-down more dates and names by contacting some of my older relatives. Does anyone have any information on the Hearns in Newfoundland. There are quite a few of us. My family came to the Goulds from possibley Kilkenny. Our original name was O'Hearn but the O got dropped by my grandfather. My grandfather's grandfather was the original immigrant. My grandfather was William Hearn. His father was John. He had uncles Patrick, Michael and William but I'm not sure about aunts. His father, John, moved to Boston in his youth where he met a girl from Renews, NF. Her name was Mary Jane Foley. After his death, my great grandmother returned to Renews with her young children. These included my grandfather, William, his brothers John and Michael and he had at least one sister Anne. If anyone has any information prior to this I would love to here about it. Thanks very much.

My father's name was Walter Michael O'Hearn, born Nov. 1930, in Jersey City, NJ, died May 1994. He had an older brother named George who died at a very young age (less than 10). His father, I don't know his name, it might have been Michael O'Hearn, married Florence O'Grady, in Jersey City, NJ. They later divorced in late 1930's or early 1940's. My father, Walter, never knew what happened to his father. I'm just wondering if this sounds familiar to any other O'Hearn in Northern New Jersey.

There is a web site recently going on-line that has genealogical and biographical records of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin including births, deaths, military and land records, etc. Among other O'Hearn items there is information regarding Thomas O'Hearn who came from County Cork in mid-1800's with a friend Mr. Kelley. Apparently he settled in Franklin Township as recorded on plat map for Maple Grove and surrounding areas. He was buried in St. Patrick cemetary, Maple Grove. His second wife was Ellen Kirby of Limerick, and from this marriage a son Thomas was born. This Thomas married Emma Playfair of Scottish descent. I can't help thinking that Thomas, Sr. is the pioneer "Corky" referred to by James O'Hearn on May 24, 1999 above.
My apologies for an oversight in the MSS "Origins of the O'Hearns", chapter V, wherein there is a reference to Daniel O'Hearn and his wife Joanna who settled in Erin Township, Wellington County, Ontatio as stated by Carol Lee Radford on July 3, 1998, above. I do not have information as to what county in Ireland from which they arrived. The reference to Kilkenny really is for Daniel O'Hearn who settled in Maple Grove township although it has been my experience that these types of inadvertencies may have some basis in spiritual phenomena such as dreams, etc. which could be based on a deeper reality.
Finally, Judy Gleeson Scown's enquiry of August 19, 2000 above regarding Daniel O'Hearn who married Ann Gleeson of Newport, County Tipperary born in 1798, and that Ann, her daughter and son-in-law (?) arrived in Brown County, Illinois mid-1800's. Apparently some of the relatives are now in Australia. My conjecture is that Daniel and Ann could have been the parents of John O'Hearn of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin (or otherwise related) as indicated by a family of Gleesons from Newport, Ireland settling in Cato not far from Maple Grove as recorded in cemetrary records listed on the above-mentioned web site.

I am the great great granddaughter of Richard Ahearn from County Waterford near Dungarvan. Richard was the son of Michael and Catherine Walsh Ahearn. He had seven brothers John, Michael, David, William, James, Stephen, and Patrick. I know that Richard, John and Patrick came to the US. Richard married Ellen Flynn fromTouraneena, County Waterford in 1854. John married Bridget Keating in Ireland, their children were born in Ireland and all came to KY around 1868. One daughter Kitty stayed in Ireland after she married Michael Halpin. Patrick also came to Ky after living in MA where several of his children were born. All three of the brothers spelt their name differently. Richard A'Hearn, John O'Hearn and Patrick Ahern. I have no idea whether the other brothers left Ireland, my grandfather Frank Donahue, was under the impression that all the brothers came over at a later date and settled near Boston. I have connected with one of John's GGGG grandson's family but have found no others. Kitty O'Hearn Halpin's two daughters came to Cynthiana KY and married there. Maggie to J.S. Linehan and Nellie to James Collins. If you are connected to these Ahearn, O'Hearn, or Ahern families please contact me.

My GGGgrandfather was John A. Hearn. He was married in Ireland to Mary Coleman. Tradition says they came from County Cork. They lived on Pearl St. in Phila., PA. They had four sons: John (had some type of disability), Thomas (plumber), Andrew, and William (worked on railroad). William and John died of influenza. Thomas married Margaret Doyle in Phila. They had one son, Thomas. Thomas married Helen Massey. They had two girls Helen and Margaret. I know where all the family is burried. I cannot however find any trace of GGGgrandfather John. I cannot find out where he came from, what he did for a living, when or where he died. I do know he had a brother William Joseph Hearn. Does anyone have any insight into the Phila Hearn's?

Hello, I don't know if you can help me. Our family has a tale of originally being O'Hearns but upon moving to England, changed the name to Hearn. My great-grandfather was a tailor in London, his name was Charles Hearn born in 1854, and he married Annie Eliza Hayward. They had three sons who moved to Canada, my grandfather being Frederick William Hearn, born June 16th, 1875. This is the only information we have which seems rather sad to me. My husband and I are travelling to Ireland on Oct. 7th, and I would dearly love any information you may have or some direction where I could go to search this out. Many thanks...Rae Hearn in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

My grandfather, John Ahearn's father, Thomas Ahearn (B:NovorApr 1830 in Kilmaine Parish, Kings County, Ireland, apparently immigated to NYC,not sure which year, and finally made his way to northwestern PA, where he died 25 Nov 1894, Greenville, Mercer co., Pa. In 1861 he married in Fordham Chapel, NYC. I wrote to the Fordham Chapel, but the letter was returned as no such address. Am curious to know more. A nameplate on my grandather's front door, read "O'Hearn" and I was told the name had ended up as Ahearn. Thanks, Jeanette

Looking for information about my grandfather Edward O'Hearn. Raised in Wisconsin (Maple Grove area, I think), had a brother named James (James married a Margaret, I believe) and two other brothers named Elmer and ?? (neither one of whom married). Can't remember my great-grandparents names. James (my grandfather's brother) & Margaret O'Hearn lived somewhere in Wisconsin (near Manitowoc?) and had ?? children, one of whom is Lumena (married to an Edward Coffin). Anyway, I'd like more information about my grandfather's family -- is he a possible relative of the John O'Hearn listed in the O'Hearn Genealogy website?

I am looking for any information about my Grandfather, William Martin Ahern. Born in Co. Cork around 1859. He emigrated to the U.S. about 1873. My father told me that his father told him that he came to the California gold fields and by the time he was 21 he sent for 9 of his brothers in Ireland. William Martin Ahern became a citizen of the U.S. in 1890 in Sacramento, Calif. I have his original citizenship paper. Any and all help will certainly be much appreciated.

My grandfather Eugene O'Hearn married Dorothy Dennison in Gananoque Ontario. They had five children; Mickle, Christine, Doug, Patrick and Barbara. Eugene, Dorothy, Barbara and a family friend all died in a house fire in 1979. Mickle O'Hearn married Marilyn Hodge, they had two children; Ashley and James. Christine married Robert Young, they had two children; Marnie and Brianne. Doug married Wilma (unknown), they had a son named Joseph. Patrick has a daughter whose name is unknown, and he is no longer a welcome member of the family. Ashley O'Hearn is commonlaw married to Olivier Howard, and we have a son named Ethan Caleb Mickle O'Hearn. Brianne Young had a daughter named Elizabeth Margaret Christine Young. That is all I know right now, but I will surely update in the future. We all reside in Ontario Canada.

Seeking info with regard to parents/lineage of Peter David O'Hern, born in South Carolina abt 1807; married Rachel Hollingsworth in Twiggs Co, Ga abt 1835 lived in Talbot, Marion, Chattahoochee, and Stewart Counties (GA) until his death about 1874. I have been trying to obtain any info about my mom's birth, stay in Buffington, Pa., and any info u may have with what ever tools u have for her parents Joseph and Ethel Hanis. Apparently, my mother Veronica Ann Hanis was born in Buffington, Pa (I believe) in 1915, or it could be within 2-3 yrs of that year. My father Emil Anthony Bayus was also born in that town 1 yr later. They only met yrs later in Ohio and married. Strange, I know--but I would so much like to know more than I have been told and basically---that wasn't very much. If u can help me great! If u can't, could u at least e-mail me and let me know where I can go to obtain info about my Grandparents and Parents? Thank-u so much! Annie M Peckham

We are going to Ireland in late March and I am trying to find out about my grandfather and grandmother if possible. I know that they came to Boston somewhere in the late 1800s. She worked as a domestic in Boston and he worked for the city of Cambridge. My father was born in1996 one of thirteen children. They always lived in Cambridge, Mass. and both died there. The little I know is that they were supposed to have come over when they were about 16. I can't be sure but she may have been Bridget Fitzgerald before marriage but I am a bit shaky on that. Thanks for any help.
